Five Things That “Scare” Women Over 40 This Halloween
Weight, Wrinkles, White Hair…and the DREADED question: “What’s for dinner?”
Sound like a scene from a horror flick?
Boo! It’s that time of year again, ladies. Halloween. You know, the season where we celebrate fun frights like haunted houses and ghost stories. But let’s be honest—if you’re over 40, you know the real terror happens every day in the mirror, on the scale, and in the grocery store aisle. Here are the five things that truly give us goosebumps—and how to deal with them like the fabulous women we are!
1. Wrinkles and Dark Circles - Oh My!
Have you ever woken up, looked at yourself in the mirror and though, Who IS this person with wrinkles and dark circles under their eyes staring back at me? Nothing is more scary than that! But no worries, I have a few tricks and a few treats to help you out this Halloween from one of my fav brands - DRMTLGY.
Fine lines & Wrinkles: The Solution: Enter DRMTLGY Needle-less Serum—my secret weapon. This little bottle is the equivalent of waving a magic wand over your skin. Use it before bed, and you’ll wake up looking fresher than the trick-or-treat candy you snuck into last night. It’s available on Amazon, so add it to your cart right now and let your skin say "boo" to wrinkles!
Dark Circles: I am obsessed with the DRMTLGY Brightening Caffeine Eye Masks for Dark Circles. Put them in the fridge and apply them in the morning while you’re having coffee. Bye, Bye, dark circles!
Boo-tox: Of course, another option to fight the wicked wrinkled witch looking back at you in the mirror is Botox. If you are curious about this option, be sure to check out my post from my friends at the Rejuvenation Center!
2. Grey Hair: That Witch That Keeps Coming Back
If grey hairs were zombies, my head would be an episode of The Walking Dead. They seem to multiply overnight, right? While some women can rock that silver fox look (go you!), others might be spooked by every new strand.
The Solution: Grab the L'Oreal Paris Root Cover Up Temporary Gray Concealer Spray from Amazon for a quick and easy fix or schedule a visit with your colorist STAT.
3. The Scale (A.K.A. the True House of Horrors)
There’s nothing scarier than stepping on the scale after a week of “just one more piece of chocolate” moments. And don’t even get me started on that “ghost weight” that sneaks up right before bed.
The Solution: You know I’m a big fan of Weight Watchers. It’s the best way to enjoy your treats without them haunting you on the scale.
But let’s face it…Halloween just is no fun without a glass of wine…and some chocolate! The best way to incorporate these sweet treats without the guilt is to plan for these points in your daily allowance and rack up some extra activity points to balance it out!
Here are a few low-point candy ideas that you can enjoy without the guilt this Halloween:
Reese's Peanut Butter Pumpkins (Mini) (2 points each)
Dove Dark Chocolate Promises (2 points per piece)
Tootsie Rolls (Mini) (1 point each)
York Peppermint Patties (Mini) (2 points per mini patty)
Track those points, ladies!
4. The Dreaded Question: ‘What’s for Dinner?’
Cue the horror music, because nothing is more terrifying than realizing it's 6 PM and you have no idea what to make for dinner. Seriously, is there a scarier question in existence?
The Solution: If you’re like me and constantly dodging this daily terror, let me introduce you to meal prepping—the true superhero of the kitchen. Grab these handy Bento Meal Prep Boxes from Amazon and fill them with healthy, Weight Watchers-approved meals. (For Weight Watcher Friendly Meal Prep ideas, check out my blog post on Meal Prepping 101!)
Another way to slay the “What’s for Dinner” dragon is by using the slow cooker! There is nothing better than coming home after a long day to the aroma of a warm meal simmering in the crock pot- especially this time of the year!
Check out my recent blog post for some spooky good “Crock-Tober” weight watcher friendly meals that would be a healthy and easy option to have ready for Halloween night after Trick-or-Treat!
5. Trying On Jeans (A.K.A. The Real Nightmare Before Christmas)
There’s nothing that strikes fear in the heart of a woman over 40 more than trying on jeans. Will they zip? Will they button? Will I need a séance to get into them?
The Solution: Thank goodness Express and Spanx have our backs (and our waists). Try my fav, Spanx Everywhere Flare Jeans for a flattering fit. Speaking of Spanx, if you’re feeling extra daring, throw on some Spanx Faux Leather Leggings—they’re a dream for slimming down those fall outfits - and no zipper required! And for a Halloween treat - BOTH are now on sale!
Finally, if all else fails, one thing that can help you overcome your fear of the wrinkles, the scale, deciding on dinner and trying on jeans is a wickedly good cocktail! Here is a recipe for my “Witch’s Brew” that will get you flying high on your broom this Halloween!
Stacey’s Witch's Brew: A Spooky Sip to Ease All Your Fears
Ingredients:
2 oz. vodka
1 oz. apple cider
½ oz. lemon juice
½ oz. simple syrup (or honey for a healthier twist)

Instructions:
In a cocktail shaker, combine vodka, apple cider, lemon juice, and simple syrup (or honey) over ice. Shake it up until well-chilled.
Strain into a glass filled with ice and top with a splash of sparkling water for a little fizz.

Final Frightening Thoughts:
Halloween might be spooky, but wrinkles, grey hair, weight gain, dinner decisions, and jeans don’t have to be! With a little help from our favorite brands like Weight Watchers, Spanx, DRMTLGY, and Amazon’s one-click solutions, you’ll be ready to face whatever "frights" come your way.
Here’s to fighting the good fight and looking fabulous while doing it! Cheers and Happy Halloween!
